First determine if you are dealing with government materials or not. If a book is unmarked (not stamped by your clinic or the Library), you can assume that it was donated.

GOVERNMENT MATERIALS
Libraries may not sell government materials. They must be either redistributed to other commands / federal libraries, or turned in to the Excess Manager, Equipment Management Office (also known as Defense Reutilization Marketing Office (DRMO)) or recycling.
The Darnall Medical Library can assist you by offering titles to other military and federal libraries. Contact us and we will work with you to determine the best way to catalog the titles and if we have space to store them.

The best way to start is by generating a list of books. If you have a barcode scanner, and can scan the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) on the back of the book, you can send us those numbers and we’ll create the list.

Our Process:
1. Generate a list of books;
2. Offer the books to the FEDLIB list;
3. Ship books in response to requests;
4. Generate a list of remaining books;
5. Take the remaining books to DRMO for excess.

PRIVATE DONATIONS
Private donations can be offered to any of the following:
Command personnel;
Federal libraries;
Other libraries.
We can assist you by offering titles to other military and federal libraries. You should feel free to redistribute among command personnel or donate to a library if you prefer. Unfortunately, we don't have the resources to ship to other libraries.
