Logistics asked the library to engage in the book procurement process for two reasons.
- If multiple copies are required, purchasing an institutional license for an ebook may be less expensive than purchasing multiple print copies.
- Purchasing books through the library and checking them out increases accountability. An unmarked book in a common clinic area may "walk." A marked book is less likely to do so.
When you contact us about book procurement, we consider the following:
- Is it available in electronic format to institutions?
- Is it within the scope of the library's collection?
- If a print book, can it be returned in reasonable condition? (This came up when discussing books that were going to be retained in the pathology lab.)
