What is a SR? A SR is a synthesis of the literature based on research question aimed to enhance the quality of health care. Conducting a high-quality review requires a comprehensive analysis of published literature using SR methods and guidelines. SR conduction timeline differ among the clinical teams from 1-2 years at a minimum. There are also various types of literature reviews (e.g., scoping review, rapid review, and others) that differ in their purpose, approach, and analysis of published studies. Information on other review types at the Review library guide
DML librarian team are available to provide information expertise and collaborate with clinical team on conducting a systematic review. Information on conducting a SR at the Systematic Review guide.
What is needed to conduct a SR?
SRs are conducted by a team of two or more clinicians by including subject specialty experts, clinicians from different fields of specialty expertise, and librarians to reduce the potential biases in conducting a review. The first step is to create the SR collaboration team, a timeline for the project, and chart the plan for review and team member roles and responsibilities. Information on conducting a SR process at the SR guidelines, process, and registration.
What is needed to collaborate on conducting SR with DML librarians?
Darnall Medical Library (DML) librarians collaborate with a clinical team on conducting a SR. The SR protocol and SR request are required for collaboration with librarians. Please, provide the required information before submitting the request for collaboration on conducting a SR. Information on collaboration with DML librarian at the SR Collaboration guide.
What is needed to request the SR collaboration with DML librarians?
When conducting a SR, please schedule a meeting with the library’s SR Coordinator to discuss the collaboration process and co-authorship agreement with DML library (librarian) on conducting a SR.
- Schedule meeting with the DML SR Coordinator.
SR Coordinator conducts an initial meeting with a potential SR collaborator. Coordinator provides the overview of the library’s collaboration initiative on conducting SR of clinical teams with DML librarians. During the meeting SR coordinator:
- Instructs on the SR collaboration process
- Consults on SR standards, guidelines, requirement, process, publication
- Instructs on development of SR study question, SR study protocol, SR publication
- Describes the SR collaboration process with librarians
- Solicits librarian interest for collaboration with collaborator
- Conducts SR consultations
- Discusses the collaboration timeline
- Discusses the librarian co-authorship
To request the SR collaboration consultation, please submit the SR collaboration request.
SR Consultation
SR Coordinator consults clinicians in conducting a SR without of collaborating with DML library team. Novice clinicians interested in conducting SR are consulted on planning SR, identifying the literature searching resources, developing search methodology, conducting a literature search, managing study citations, and reviewing SR guidelines. However, this consultation is advisory without the collaboration agreement and co-authorship. Also, literature search is not conducted for clinical teams aiming to conduct the SR.
During the SR consultation SR coordinator advice on:
- exploration of systematic review resources
- selection of information resources
- search methodology
- citation management
- systematic review standards and guidelines
To request a systematic review consultation in conducting a systematic review, please submit the Systematic Review consultation request.
What is needed to know to conduct the SR?
The knowledge of the SR standards, guidelines, and methodology is required to conduct a SR to develop advanced knowledge on conducting research, literature analysis, study design, and research question formulation.
To learn about the planning, conducting, and writing a SR and to develop advanced knowledge on conducting research, literature analysis, study design, and research question formulation, consider attending the lectures:
- Conducting Systematic Review
